Abstract: Introduction: gastrointestinal stromal tumors are the most common mesenchymal tumors, they can occur anywhere in the digestive tract. Objective: to present the experience of 10 years in the Oncology Unit of the General Hospital of Puebla “Dr. Eduardo Vázquez Navarro” in the management of patients diagnosed with Gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Material and methods: longitudinal, retrospective, observational and clinical study carried out in patients with a histopathological diagnosis of Gastrointestinal stromal tumors between the months of January 2012 to December 2022 in the Oncology Unit of the General Hospital of Puebla. Discussion: 24 records of patients with a diagnosis of Gastrointestinal stromal tumors tumor were reviewed. An institutional incidence of 2% was found. The average age at diagnosis was 53 years, with a male predominance. Surgical treatment was performed in 96% of the cases. A 5-year survival of 16% was found. Recurrence occurred in 16% to liver and lung. Conclusions: gastrointestinal stromal tumors have an unpredictable behavior. Surgery in early stages is the curative treatment. Its indolent presentation makes its diagnosis difficult until advanced stages of the disease. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors have improved survival and are a therapeutic option in cases where surgery is not possible.

Resumen: Introducción: los tumores del estroma gastrointestinal son los tumores mesenquimales más comunes y pueden presentarse en cualquier parte del tracto digestivo. Objetivo: exponer la experiencia de 10 años en la Unidad de Oncología del Hospital General de Puebla “Dr. Eduardo Vázquez Navarro” en el manejo de pacientes con diagnóstico de tumores del estroma gastrointestinal. Material y métodos: estudio longitudinal, retrospectivo, observacional y clínico efectuado en pacientes con diagnóstico histopatológico de tumores del estroma gastrointestinal entre los meses de enero de 2012 y diciembre de 2022 en la Unidad de Oncología del Hospital General de Puebla. Discusión: se revisaron 24 expedientes de pacientes con diagnóstico de tumor del estroma gastrointestinal. Se observó una incidencia institucional de 2%. El promedio de edad al momento del diagnóstico fue de 53 años, con predominio masculino. Se realizó tratamiento quirúrgico en 96% de los casos. Se encontró una supervivencia a cinco años de 16% y se presentó recurrencia en 16% en hígado y pulmón. Conclusiones: los tumores del estroma gastrointestinal tienen un comportamiento impredecible. La cirugía en etapas tempranas es el tratamiento curativo. Su presentación indolente dificulta su diagnóstico hasta etapas avanzadas de la enfermedad. Los inhibidores de tirosina cinasa han mejorado la supervivencia y son una opción terapéutica en casos en los que no es posible realizar la cirugía.

Abstract The identification of putative prognostic factors in canine mammary neoplasms (CMNs) has been focused on tissue-specific biomarkers, but the serum biomarkers, including cancer antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3), c-reactive protein (CRP), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) have been demonstrated to display clinical application in cases of CMNs. The aim of the study was to evaluate the levels of these serum biomarkers and their association with well-established prognostic factors in CMNs. Samples from 15 female canines with CMNs and 15 clinically healthy ones were collected. The results were evaluated using the Tukey’s, Pearson, or Spearman tests. The cut-off point, sensitivity, specificity, and area under curve (AUC) were evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis in a logistic regression model (P<0.05). The levels of CA 15-3, CRP and LDH were significantly higher in the serum of female dogs with CMNs compared to the healthy ones. Moreover, these factors were positively correlated with ulceration, tumor size, histopathological grade, metastatic lymph node, and clinical staging. Female dogs with CMNs were found to exhibit highest serum levels of CA 15-3, CRP, and LDH. Therefore, they can be applied to improve the efficacy of the diagnosis and prognostic evaluation in casas of CMNs.

ABSTRACT An adequate use of brackish water in agricultural production is one of the main challenges for researchers and rural producers, since saline stress may cause physiological and nutritional changes in plants, affecting the crop yield. An appropriate mineral nutrition is essential for plants, grown under saline stress, to express their productive potential. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mineral nutrition and hydroponic kale production under saline stress and calcium nitrate. The experiment was carried out using one hydroponic system in substrate, following a randomized block design, with five treatments and four replicates. The treatments consisted of five nutrient solutions, with a control treatment {S1 = standard nutrient solution using low salinity water, 0.5 dS/m [750 mg/L of Ca(NO3)2]}, and four nutrient solutions prepared using brackish water (6.0 dS/m) containing four concentrations of Ca(NO3)2 (S2 = 750 mg/L, S3 = 1,125 mg/L, S4 = 1,500 mg/L, S5 = 1,875 mg/L). We determined the levels of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S in leaf tissue at three evaluation times (50, 64 and 78 DAT). Mineral levels in the leaves, stem and root were also evaluated at the end of the experiment (100 DAT). In addition, leaf production and the agronomic efficiency of Ca(NO3)2 were verified. The highest leaf production (1780 g/plant) and agronomic efficiency [2.37 g fresh matter/mg of Ca(NO3)2] were obtained in the standard nutrient solution, and both were reduced at 55.6% by salinity. The extra addition of 50% Ca(NO3)2 in the saline nutrient solution reduced the effect of salinity on Mg absorption and the effect of NaCl addition on kale production.

RESUMO O uso de águas salobras na produção agrícola é um dos principais desafios para pesquisadores e produtores rurais, pois sob estresse salino as plantas podem apresentar alterações fisiológicas e nutricionais, que afetam o rendimento das culturas. Com isso, adequada nutrição mineral é fundamental para que as plantas cultivadas sob estresse salino possam expressar seu potencial produtivo. Objetivou-se com o presente estudo avaliar a nutrição mineral e a produção de couve folha hidropônica sob estresse salino e nitrato de cálcio. O experimento foi desenvolvido utilizando um sistema hidropônico em substrato, seguindo o delineamento de blocos casualizados, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram compostos por cinco soluções nutritivas, sendo um tratamento controle {S1 = solução nutritiva padrão usando água de baixa salinidade, 0,5 dS/m [750 mg/L de Ca(NO3)2]}, e quatro soluções nutritivas preparadas em águas salobras (6,0 dS/m) contendo quatro concentrações de Ca(NO3)2 (S2 = 750 mg/L, S3 = 1.125 mg/L, S4 = 1.500 mg/L, S5 = 1.875 mg/L). Foram determinados os teores de N, P, K, Ca, Mg e S no tecido foliar em três épocas de avaliações (50, 64 e 78 DAT), além de uma avaliação dos teores minerais nas folhas, caule e raiz ao final do experimento (100 DAT). As variáveis produção de folhas e eficiência agronômica do Ca(NO3)2 foram avaliadas. A maior produção de folhas (1780 g/planta) e eficiência agronômica [2,37 g matéria fresca/mg de Ca(NO3)2] foram obtidas na solução nutritiva padrão, e ambas foram reduzidas em 55,6% pela salinidade. A adição extra de Ca(NO3)2 em 50% na solução nutritiva salinizada reduziu o efeito da salinidade sobre a absorção de Mg e reduziu o efeito da adição de NaCl sobre a produção da couve.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar alterações fisiológicas e bioquímicas em gemas de caquizeiro ‘Fuyu’ durante a dormência. Ramos foram coletados entre março e agosto de 2015. A dormência foi avaliada pelo teste biológico de estacas de nós isolados, a 25 °C e fotoperíodo de 16 h. As variáveis analisadas foram umidade ponderal, teor de açúcares solúveis, atividade respiratória, atividade das enzimas superóxido dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbato peroxidase (APX), guaiacol peroxidase (POD) e polifenoloxidase (PPO), teor de peróxido de hidrogênio (H2O2) e peroxidação lipídica. No final de março de 2015 as plantas já estavam dormentes, as folhas e frutos presentes indicam efeito de paradormência. A indução da endodormência pode ter ocorrido em junho de 2015, quando iniciou acúmulo de horas de frio (HF) abaixo de 7,2 °C e maiores HF abaixo de 12 °C, que coincidiu com o período que houve diminuição da umidade e da atividade respiratória, aumento dos açúcares redutores, diminuição da atividade da SOD, CAT, APX e PPO e aumento de H2O2. Após acúmulo de 553 HF abaixo de 12 °C, a capacidade de brotação aumentou e as gemas apresentaram aumento da umidade, diminuição do teor de açúcares redutores, aumento da atividade respiratória, baixa atividade da SOD, CAT, APX e POD e elevados teores de H2O2.

ABSTRACT: This study identified physiological and biochemical changes in ‘Fuyu’ persimmon buds during dormancy. Branches were collected between March and August 2015. Dormancy was evaluated by biological testing of isolated node cuttings at 25 °C and a photoperiod of 16 h. The variables analyzed were water content; reducing sugar content; respiratory activity; activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), guaiacol peroxidase (POD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzymes; hydrogen peroxide content (H2O2) and lipid peroxidation. At the end of March 2015, the plants were already dormant, and the leaves and fruits present indicated a paradormancy effect. Induction of endodormancy may have occurred in June 2015, when chilling hours (CH) below 7.2 °C and higher CH below 12 °C began to accumulate, which coincided with the period in which there was a decrease in water content and respiratory activity, an increase in reducing sugars, a decrease in SOD, CAT, APX and PPO and an increase in H2O2. After an accumulation of 553 CH below 12 °C, the budburst capacity increased, and the buds presented increased water content, decreased reducing sugars content, increased respiratory activity, low activity in SOD, CAT, APX and POD and high levels of H2O2.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effective temperature for overcoming the dormancy of ‘Fuyu’ persimmon tree buds. Stem samples were collected three times between 2013 and 2014. Stems were maintained in a climate incubator chamber at 3, 6, 9, and 12 °C. For each temperature, five numbers of additional chilling hours (CH) (0, 240, 384, 528, and 672 CH) were studied. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 5 × 4 factorial design (chilling hours × temperatures) with four replications with 10 cuttings. The maintenance of branches at cold temperatures from 3 to 12 °C intensified endodormancy of the buds when the plants were at the beginning of endodormancy. The most effective temperatures for overcome dormancy when the buds were in transition from paradormancy to endodormancy were from 3 to 6 °C. When the buds were already in endodormancy, temperatures of 3, 6, 9, and 12 °C were effective for the accumulation of cold and overcoming dormancy. The increase in the number of chilling hours from 3 to 12 °C induced budburst and the temperature of 12 °C was able to slowly induce and overcome bud dormancy.

Resumen El uso de fuentes de energía renovable, como los aceites vegetales, aceite de coco babasú (Orbignya speciosa Mart.) extraído industrialmente y manualmente, tiene ventajas económicas y ambientales. En este escenario, el presente trabajo presenta la producción y caracterización del aceite de coco babasú extraído industrialmente y manualmente y el biodiésel. Los biocombustibles se obtuvieron por transesterificación alcalina, utilizando hidróxido de potasio y metanol. La caracterización se realizó mediante infrarrojo con transformada de Fourier (FTIR), viscosidad cinemática, densidad, cenizas sulfatadas, índice de acidez, punto de fluidez, punto de inflamación y cromatografía de gases. Según los resultados, los espectros FTIR mostraron una absorción característica del éster, los estiramientos de enlace C=O (1704 cm-1 y 1742 cm-1) y C-O (1112 cm-1 y 1111 cm-1). Los resultados de las pruebas de viscosidad cinemática, densidad, índice de acidez, punto de fluidez y punto de inflamación se ajustaron a los límites establecidos por la ANP, Resolución nº 45/2014. La cromatografía de gases mostró el predominio de ésteres metílicos derivados de los ácidos láurico (C12:0), mirístico (C14:0) y palmítico (C16:0). Así, el aceite de coco y el aceite de coco babasú extraído industrialmente y manualmente resultaron viables para la producción de biodiésel, presentándose como una potencial materia prima para el sector de biocombustibles, dado el volumen expresivo de las plantaciones de babasú en el estado de Maranhão.

Abstract The use of renewable energy sources, such as vegetable oils like babassu coconut (Orbignya speciosa Mart.) oil extracted industrially and manually, has economic and environmental advantages. In this scenario, the present work presents the production and characterization biodiesel of babassu coconut oil extracted industrially and manually. Biofuels were obtained by alkaline transesterification, using potassium hydroxide and methanol. The characterization was performed by infrared with Fourier transform (FTIR), kinematic viscosity, density, sulphated ash, acidity index, pour point, flash point and gas chromatography. According to the results, the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy FTIR spectra showed characteristic absorption of esters, the C=O bond stretches (1704 cm-1 and 1742 cm-1) and C-O (1112 cm-1 and 1111 cm-1). The results of the kinematic viscosity, density, acidity index, pour point and flash point tests were in compliance with the limits established by the ANP, Resolution no. 45/2014. The gas chromatography showed the predominance of methyl esters derived from lauric (C12:0), miristic (C14:0) and palmitic (C16:0) acids. Thus, babassu coconut oil extracted industrially and manually proved to be viable for the production of biodiesel, presenting itself as a potential raw material for the biofuel sector, given the significant volume of babassu plantations in the state of Maranhão.

Resumo A utilização de fontes renováveis de energia, como os óleos vegetais, a exemplo o óleo e azeite de coco babaçu (Orbignya speciosa Mart.), apresentam vantagens econômicas e ambientais. Neste cenário, o presente trabalho apresenta a produção e caracterização do biodiesel de óleo e azeite de coco babaçu. Os biocombustíveis foram obtidos por transesterificação alcalina, utilizando-se hidróxido de potássio e metanol. A caracterização foi realizada por infravermelho com transformada de Fourier (FTIR), viscosidade cinemática, densidade, cinzas sulfatadas, índice de acidez, ponto de fluidez e ponto de fulgor e cromatografia gasosa. De acordo com os resultados, os espectros de FTIR apresentaram absorções características de ésteres, os estiramentos da ligação C=O (1704 cm-1 e 1742 cm-1) e C-O (1112 cm-1 e 1111 cm-1). Os resultados dos ensaios de viscosidade cinemática, densidade, índice de acidez, ponto de fluidez e ponto de fulgor apresentaram conformidade com os limites estabelecidos pela ANP, Resolução nº 45/2014. A cromatografia gasosa apontou a predominância de ésteres metílicos derivados dos ácidos láurico (C12:0), mirístico (C14:0) e palmítico (C16:0). Desta forma, o óleo e o aceite de coco babaçu se mostraram viáveis para a produção de biodiesel, apresentando-se como potencial matéria-prima para o setor de biocombustíveis, dado o volume expressivo das plantações de babaçuais do estado do Maranhão.

■ RESUMO Introdução: As cicatrizes patológicas ocorrem a partir de hiperproliferaçãoo de fibroblastos, podendo ser classificadas em cicatrizes hipertróficas e queloides, basicamente as cicatrizes hipertróficas não crescem além dos limites da ferida original, enquanto os queloides crescem horizontalmente de forma nodular. Apesar da diversidade de instrumentos utilizados para orientar a prevenção, tratamento e seguimento de cicatrizes patológicas, existe a necessidade de instrumentos que contemplem realidades locais. O objetivo é realizar uma revisão narrativa de literatura sobre algoritmos para manejo de cicatrizes e criar um algoritmo atualizado. Métodos: Estudo descritivo de revisão narrativa de literatura, sendo realizado uma pesquisa nas bases de dados PubMed, SciELO, LILACS, MEDLINE e Cochrane, no período de novembro de 2010 até novembro de 2020, publicados nos idiomas inglês, português e espanhol. Os descritores utilizados foram: “cicatrix”, “keloid”, “algorithms” e “wound healing”. A seleção da amostra consistiu da identificação dos artigos, leitura dos títulos e resumos e seleção de estudos relacionados ao tema e, posteriormente, foi realizada a leitura na íntegra dos estudos selecionados e classificação segundo os critérios de elegibilidade. Resultados: Foram encontrados 209 artigos sendo eliminados 116 devido duplicidade resultando em 45 artigos. Foram identificados um total de 8 artigos que preencheram os critérios de inclusão e após análise e reunião de consenso foram excluídos quatro artigos devido à ausência de algoritmos com rigor científico sendo este estudo composto de quatro artigos. Conclusão: Foram encontrados quatro algoritmos na revisão de literatura que resultaram na elaboração de um algoritmo atualizado para cicatrizes.

■ ABSTRACT Introduction: Pathological scars occur from the hyperproliferation of fibroblasts and can be classified into hypertrophic scars and keloids. Basically, hypertrophic scars do not grow beyond the limits of the original wound, while keloids grow horizontally in a nodular form. Despite the diversity of instruments used to guide the prevention, treatment and follow-up of pathological scars, there is a need for instruments that address local realities. The objective is to carry out a narrative review of the literature on scar management algorithms and create an updated algorithm. Methods: Descriptive study of narrative literature review, with a search in PubMed, SciELO, LILACS, MEDLINE and Cochrane databases, from November 2010 to November 2020, published in English, Portuguese and Spanish. The descriptors used were: “cicatrix,” “keloid,” “algorithms,” and “wound healing.” The sample selection consisted of identifying the articles, reading the titles and abstracts, and selecting studies related to the topic. Subsequently, the full reading of the selected studies and classification according to the eligibility criteria were carried out. Results: 209 articles were found, and 116 were eliminated due to duplicity, resulting in 45 articles. A total of 8 articles that met the inclusion criteria were identified. Four articles were excluded after analysis and consensus meeting due to the absence of algorithms with scientific rigor; this study is composed of four articles. Conclusion: Four algorithms were found in the literature review that resulted in the development of an updated algorithm for scars.

Resumen En este artículo se realiza una descripción sobre el concepto colonialismo y el proceso de chilenización, entendidos como los elementos y las políticas promovidas por el Estado y las élites, en tanto dispositivos que aseguren el control territorial, la integración económica y poblacional en el territorio “La Frontera” con el Estado de Chile a comienzos del XX. El espacio de estudio es la Gobernación de Villarrica, lugar simbólico de la resistencia mapuche a la ocupación. Metodológicamente se utiliza un análisis documental de solicitudes y peticiones que muestra la influencia de muchos actores en el proceso de chilenización entre los años 1900-20. Se concluye que la chilenización, no cumplió las expectativas que llevaron a la conquista de esta zona.

Abstract This article aims to describe the concept of colonialism and the process of chileanization (which are understood from the elements and the policies promoted by the state and the élites, as devices that attempted to ensure territorial control and economic, domain and population) in the territory called “La Frontera” on Chile in the early twentieth century, specifically in the Prefectures of Villarrica-Pitrufquén, the Mapuche symbolic place of resistance against the occupation of its territory. It is shown the number of actors that influenced the process of chileanization between 1900-1920. Methodologically it is used a document analysis of request and petitions that shows many actors influences on the chileanization process between the years 1900-20. It was concluded that the process of chilenization did not meet the expectations that led to the conquest of the land.

Resumo Este artigo descreve o conceito de colonialismo e o processo de chileanização, entendidos como os elementos e políticas promovidos pelo Estado e pelas élites, como dispositivos que garantem o controle territorial, a integração econômica e populacional no território “La Frontera” com o estado do Chile, no início do século XX. O espaço de estudo é a província de Villarrica, um local simbólico da resistência mapuche à ocupação. Uma análise metodológica de solicitações e solicitações é usada metodologicamente, mostrando a influência de muitos atores no processo. Chileanização entre 1900-20. Conclui-se que a chileanização não atendeu às expectativas que levaram à conquista dessa área.

RESUMO: Dentre as enfermidades que acometem o sistema reprodutivo dos animais domésticos, a brucelose na espécie ovina tem se destacado por gerar prejuízos econômicos significativos à ovinocultura. Dessa forma, apresenta-se como uma ameaça ao crescimento e à produtividade dos rebanhos ovinos. Diante de tal problemática, objetivou-se, por meio desta pesquisa, identificar a prevalência de brucelose ovina em rebanhos pertencentes a municípios da microrregião de Teresina, Piauí, por meio dos testes sorológicos, imunodifusão em gel de ágar (IDGA) e ensaio imunoenzimático (ELISA) indireto. Quatorze municípios foram incluídos na pesquisa. Para sua execução, colheram-se, por punção venosa da jugular, amostras sanguíneas de 521 animais púberes. Após colheita, as amostras foram submetidas às técnicas sorológicas, IDGA e ELISA indireto, para a detecção de anticorpos anti-B. ovis. Das 521 amostras submetidas ao teste de IDGA, 23 (4,41%) foram sororreagentes e 498 (95,58%) negativas. Quanto ao teste ELISA indireto, obtiveram-se 24 (4,61%) amostras suspeitas e 497 (95,39%) amostras negativas, não havendo animais reagentes neste teste, apenas suspeitos. A soroprevalência da brucelose ovina na microrregião homogênea de Teresina, Piauí, foi de 4,41%. Assim, foi possível identificar ovinos com sorologia reagente à infecção por B. ovis, presente em municípios do estado do Piauí. Além disso, a IDGA mostrou-se mais sensível em detectar animais que tiveram contato com o agente etiológico da doença.

ABSTRACT: Among the diseases that affect the reproductive system of domestic animals, brucellosis in the sheep species is important because it generates significant economic losses to sheep rearing. Thus, it is a threat to the growth and productivity of sheep herds. In the face of this problem, the objective of the present research was to identify the prevalence of ovine brucellosis in herds in municipalities of the Teresina, Piauí, Brazil microregion by using the agar gel immunodiffusion assay (AGID) and indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) serological tests. Fourteen municipalities were included in the research. Blood samples were collected from 521 pubescent animals by puncturing the jugular vein. After collection, the samples were submitted to the serological techniques, AGID and indirect ELISA, to detect anti B. ovis antibody. Of the 521 samples submitted to the AGIDtest, 23 (4.41%) were sera reagent and 498 (95.58%) negative. The indirect ELISA tests, 24 (4.61%) suspect samples and 497 (95.39%) negative samples were obtained, and there were no reagent animals in this test, only suspect. The seroprevalence of ovine brucellosis in the Teresina, Piauí microregion was 4.41%. Thus, it is possible to identify sheep with reagent serology to infection by B. ovis, that is present in municipalities in the state of Piauí, Brazil. Furthermore, AGIDwas shown to be more sensitive in detecting animals that had had contact with the etiological agent of the disease.

Abstract Purpose To Compare the extent and intensity of adhesions formed between the intra-abdominal organs and the intraperitoneal implants of polypropylene mesh versus polypropylene/polyglecaprone versus polyester/porcine collagen used for correction of abdominal wall defect in rats. Methods After the defect in the abdominal wall, thirty Wistar rats were placed in three groups (ten animals each) for intraperitoneal mesh implant: polypropylene group, polypropylene/polyglecaprone group, and polyester/porcine collagen group. The macroscopic evaluation of the extent and intensity of adhesions was performed 21 days after the implant. Results The polypropylene group had a higher statistically significant impairment due to visceral adhesions (p value = 0.002) and a higher degree of intense adherence in relation to polypropylene/polyglecaprone and polyester/porcine collagen groups (p value<0.001). The polyester/porcine collagen group showed more intense adhesions than the polypropylene/polyglecaprone group (p value=0.035). Conclusions The intraperitoneal implantation of polypropylene meshes to correct defects of the abdominal wall caused the appearance of extensive and firm adhesions to intra-abdominal structures. The use of polypropylene/polyglecaprone or polyester/porcine collagen tissue-separating meshes reduces the number and degree of adhesions formed.

ABSTRACT. Elephantopus mollis Kunth (Asteraceae) is an aromatic medicinal species native to South and Central America with hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and leishmanicidal properties. We evaluated its maturation, ideal harvest moment, processing and seed storage, aiming to contribute to the production of this medicinal plant. We collected flower capitula between 7 and 56 days after anthesis for determination of seed moisture content, seed dry matter accumulation and germination, and correlated these factors with the morphological characters of the capitula. Capitulum processing was conducted with sieves and a seed blower to evaluate the purity, 1,000 seed weight, germination and cultural value of the seeds. The germination potential of seeds stored for 18 months refrigerated and at room temperature and the correlation of these results with those of an accelerated aging test were determined. The ideal harvest moment occurs at 49 days after anthesis and can be identified in the field by the brown coloration of the interfloral bracts. Seeds with cultural value above 80% can be obtained with the use of a 0.59 mm sieve and seed blower. The seeds can be stored cold for 12 months, and the accelerated aging test allows estimation of the viability of the seeds during storage for 18 months.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Protruding ear is the most common congenital deformity of the head and neck, with an autosomal dominant inheritance and no predilection for sex. Protruding ear or prominent ear occurs when there is concha excess or hypertrophy, erasure of the antihelix, a scapho-conchal angle greater than 90°, or a combination of these factors, occurring unior bilaterally. The objective is to present a conservative approach to correct protruding ear, with a combination of techniques. Methods: The otoplasty surgical technique involved an anterior approach for resection of the auricular concha, which was associated with weakening of the antihelix, and partial incisions of the cartilage were performed through anterior access and of Mustardé sutures, through posterior access for better definition of the antihelix without fixation of the concha to the mastoid. Two hundred patients with a mean age of 17 years underwent operations between January 1987 and January 2015, 60% of whom were female. Results: Of the 200 patients, only 24 patients needed discrete surgical revisions. Conclusion: The surgical procedure is simple, easily reproducible, provides good results, and is associated with a high degree of satisfaction and a low rate of complications/morbidities.

RESUMO Introdução: Orelha em abano é a deformidade congênita mais comum de cabeça e pescoço, cuja transmissão se dá por herança autossômica dominante, sem predileção por gênero. A orelha proeminente ou “em abano” ocorre quando há um excesso ou hipertrofia da concha auricular, apagamento da antélice, um ângulo escafoconchal maior que 90º ou uma combinação destes, ocorrendo uni ou bilateralmente. O objetivo é apresentar uma abordagem conservadora para correção de orelha em abano, com a associação de técnicas. Métodos: Foi utilizada uma variação cirúrgica para realização de otoplastia com o auxílio de uma abordagem anterior para ressecção da concha auricular associada ao enfraquecimento da antélice com incisões parciais na cartilagem também por via anterior e a realização de pontos de Mustardé por via posterior para melhor definição da antélice, sem a fixação da concha à mastoide. Foram operados 200 pacientes com idade média de 17 anos, entre janeiro de 1987 e janeiro de 2015, sendo 60% do gênero feminino. Resultados: Dos 200 pacientes, apenas 24 necessitaram revisões cirúrgicas discretas. Conclusão: O procedimento cirúrgico é simples, facilmente reprodutível, proporcionando bons resultados, com alto grau de satisfação e baixo índice de complicações/morbidade.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Reconstruction of the nipple-areola complex (NAC) is a fundamental step in the treatment of breast cancer. It is usually performed in two distinct stages. Tattooing is performed only after reconstruction and complete scarring of the nipple. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted from 2015 to 2016 at the Hospital São Lucas of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul. Twenty-one patients with a single NAC were included. One-stage reconstruction of the nipple using a local C-V flap associated with tattooing for pigmentation of the NAC is described. Data on the type of breast reconstruction performed, associated complications, and presence of previous breast radiotherapy were presented. Results: Most patients (48%) underwent reconstruction with an implant. Three complications (14%) were observed in the nipple, including one case of partial necrosis and two cases of small dehiscence. None of the patients had complications due to tattooing. Eleven patients (52%) underwent breast radiotherapy previously. Conclusion: Tattooing combined with one-stage reconstruction using a C-V flap is a simple technique with a low rate of complication.

RESUMO Introdução: A reconstrução do complexo areolopapilar (CAP) é etapa fundamental no tratamento do câncer de mama. Tipicamente, é realizada em dois tempos distintos, sendo primeiro a papila reconstruída e somente após sua completa cicatrização que a tatuagem é realizada. Métodos: Estudo retrospectivo realizado no período de 2015 a 2016 no Hospital São Lucas da PUCRS. Foram incluídas 21 pacientes com ausência do CAP unilateral. É descrita a técnica de reconstrução da papila com retalho local em C-V associado à tatuagem para pigmentação do CAP em tempo único. Foram apresentados os dados referentes ao tipo de reconstrução mamária realizada, às complicações e à presença de radioterapia prévia. Resultados: A maioria das pacientes foi reconstruída com implante (48%). Houve três complicações relacionadas à papila (14%), uma necrose parcial e duas deiscências pequenas. Não houve complicação relacionada à tatuagem. Onze pacientes (52%) haviam realizado radioterapia prévia na mama. Conclusão: A tatuagem associada ao retalho em C-V em tempo único é uma técnica simples e com baixo índice de complicações.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a chronic and rare autoimmune dermatosis. Its etiology remains poorly understood, being idiopathic in 25 to 50% of cases; in others, it is associated with systemic diseases with autoimmune background and has an incidence of 2 to 3 cases per 1 million per year. In Brazil, the rate is 0.38 cases per 10,000 clinical visits, and women between the second and fifth decades of life are the most affected. The clinical presentation is variable, and the ulcerous form, which appears on a previous scar, is the most prevalent. Case Report: A 39-year-old, previously healthy female underwent reduction mammoplasty, and later developed a necrotic ulcer on a vertical left breast scar. Debridement of devitalized tissue was performed, with significant worsening despite antibiotic therapy. The appearance suggested PG. Treatment with oral and topical corticosteroids was then initiated with remission. Conclusions: PG represents a diagnostic challenge, and can be confused with surgical site infection.

RESUMO Introdução: O pioderma gangrenoso (PG) corresponde a uma dermatose autoimune crônica e rara. Sua base etiológica ainda permanece pouco conhecida, sendo idiopático em 25 a 50% dos casos, nos demais está associado com doenças sistêmicas de fundo autoimune, tem uma incidência de 2 a 3 casos em 1 milhão de habitantes por ano. No Brasil, este índice é de 0,38 casos por 10.000 atendimentos, as mais acometidas são as mulheres entre a segunda e quinta década de vida. O quadro clínico é variável, sendo que a forma ulcerosa, que surge sobre uma cicatriz prévia, é a mais prevalente. Relato de Caso: Paciente do sexo feminino, 39 anos de idade, previamente hígida, foi submetida à mamoplastia redutora, evoluiu com úlcera necrótica em cicatriz vertical de mama esquerda. Realizado desbridamento de tecidos desvitalizados, prescrita antibioticoterapia, apresentando piora importante da lesão, sendo considerada a hipótese de PG. Iniciado tratamento com corticoterapia oral e tópica com remissão do quadro. Conclusões: O PG representa um desafio no diagnóstico e, geralmente, demonstra a dificuldade diagnóstica, podendo ser confundido com infecção do sítio cirúrgico.
